Content: This Ph.D. thesis describes a method to determinate forces and tensions in ferro-magnetic materials. The method exploits the magnetoelastic effect by means of eddy current sensoring coils. Basics of measuring effects as well as important relationships between mechanical, electrical and magnetic material properties and sensors concepts were presented.

This specific application case can be understood as an enhancement to non-destructive testing techniques in structural engineering. Hereby, weak permeable prestressing steel can be excited with the help of multi sensor ferrite coils. An impedance measurement of these coils can be performed as a function of prevailing mechanical tensions. For comfortable mechanical stresses determination on steel strands the magnetic quiescent point of the rod must be stabilized and optimized by annular permanent magnets. Due to the parameterization of sensor coils and the magnetic field properties, a specification of sensor calibration could be declared. The knowledge of magnetostrictive material properties can be used as an indicator of the sensitivity of this material-dependent measurement concept.

Finally, several methods are presented, which are able to reduce measurement errors and uncertainties in the field of multi sensor data fusion.
