Content: This work aims to provide guidance in how to deal with the seemingly contradictory statements by highly respected researchers on the relevance of the theme of theodicy for young people today and, consequently, their importance for Religious Education. The theoretical excursion leads to a theological framework for theodicy. The three most controversial studies are presented. Educational-theoretical approaches for the design of teachinglearning processes in Religious Education, particularly in the context of
secularisation, are reflected. The last trip concerns the practical experiences with “Theologising with young people” and theodicy in school working groups. It is shown that due to their individualisation and the combination of various factors young people develop very diverse views. In a mutual process of acquisition, these different approaches should be seen as an opportunity for getting adolescents theologise about the existential question of suffering and God’s possible involvement in it. In this way, viable
responses for creatively dealing with different life situations can be developed.
