Content: This thesis deals with the occupational safety and health conditions in the formal sector of Nicaragua.
Methodologically, an important decision has been to make interviews with the employed persons at their VDT-places of work. Thus useful information about the interviewed persons and about their working conditions is given.
The study focuses upon two main issues: the occupational safety and health aspect of the work of the Nicaraguan people, and the working conditions in the formal sector of Nicaragua. Regarding the first issue, the conclusion is that the workplaces in Nicaragua are not - considering human factors or ergonomics - well-designed, and that the working conditions may be improved with a mix of preventive, accompanying, and supporting measures. In particular, training may have a major impact upon the work patterns of the employed persons.
